Caring for Cotton

Cotton is best when machine washed in cool to warm water on a gentle to normal cycle. Detergents should be dissolved prior to adding your bedlinen. Be aware that some detergents have bleaching agents or optical brighteners which can cause damage if it comes in direct contact with the fabric. Line dry your Pure Zone bedlinen and fold when dry and then ironing should not be necessary.

As Cotton is a natural fibre, there are certain products to avoid:

Caring for your Bedlinen
(including Quilt Covers and Sheets)

At Pure Zone, we always recommend washing your items before use. We recommend cool to warm machine wash with mild detergent that doesn’t come in contact with the bedlinen. Remove immediately. Line dry is recommended. However, if you want to tumble dry, do so on a cool setting. Remove immediately and fold. This will reduce the possibility of needing to iron. However, if desired, warm iron only that does not come into contact with any embroidered features.

Caring for your Embroidered Bedlinen

At Pure Zone, we always recommend washing your items before use.  Any bedlinen with an embroidered design or raised pattern is best washed inside out to protect the surface from damage due to agitation in the washing machine.

Caring for your Flannelette

Flannelette is 100% Cotton fabric which can shrink slightly when washed. At Pure Zone, we allow for this and cut this slightly larger than required to allow for slight shrinkage. However, if desired only use a warm iron. Due to the brushing of the Cotton to create Flannelette, there can be some excess fluff. This will settle after washing.

Caring for your Towels

To ensure the longevity of your Pure Zone towels, wash on warm machine wash.DO NOT use any form of fabric conditioner or detergent with fabric conditioner to wash your towels. Fabric conditioner will substantially reduce the absorbency of your towels. Commercial laundries are very harsh on all fabrics and are not recommended. Line dry or tumble dry. As Pure Zone Towels are 100% Cotton, there may be excess fluff initially which will settle after washing/tumble drying.

Caring for your Pillows

Different pillows require different care.

Microfibre Pillows – warm hand wash or gentle machine wash. Do not dry clean.

Hollow Fibre Pillows – Warm, gentle machine wash or dry clean.

Hi-Loft Pillows – Warm hand wash and drip dry.

Caring for your Quilts

All quilts require different care.

All Wool Quilts – Dry Clean Only

Microfibre Quilts – Machine washable and tumble dry on warm setting

Cotton Quilts – Dry Clean Only

Under Quilts – Machine washable on gentle setting. Dry on line.

Absorbency, Shrinkage and Colour Fastness

With proper care and following recommended care instructions, shrinkage should not be a problem with Pure Zone products. All Pure Zone towels are tested to provide lasting colour, excellent absorbency and minimal shrinkage especially in the borders. All Pure Zone fabrics are tested for shrinkage before they are manufactured so we can make the correct allowances. However, shrinkage can be up to as much as 10% and some products may seem larger when first opened, however we have allowed for shrinkage and improper care. Shrinkage is also a factor of the way the product is washed and dried. This is dependent on the type of washing machine used (whether it’s a front or top loader), the washing cycle used, the strength of the washing cycle, water temperature and how the product is dried (line dry or machine dried). The colour of Towels or Bedlinen can be maintained by not using oxidising detergents, bleaching agents or optical brighteners. Bathroom/laundry cleaning products should not come into contact with towels. Some facial cleansing solutions or hair products contain bleaching agents and can affect the colour of a towel or bedlinen.

The absorbency of a towel can be maintained by not using fabric softeners as a “coating” sticks to the fibre and whereas the towel feels soft, absorbency is reduced. Towels can be kept soft by warm tumble drying. Excess cotton from the milling process can cause fluffing in some new towels. Whereas this can be annoying, it is not a fault and will settle after washing. Wash towels separately from other items and only with like colours.
