"I am not ashamed to admit that the first time I moved out of home, I was WAY out of touch when it came to style and interior design. Shamelessly, I thought my curation of mis-matched furniture and excessive amounts of throw cushions were pretty on point.
Looking back now, I probably wouldn't choose to put any of that furniture in my house. The lounge was the most uncomfortable thing I ever sat on, the dark wood bookshelves conflicted with the white TV unit and I legitimately used a lime green shower curtain as a table cloth.
Now that I'm significantly more 'style educated' (I wouldn't go as far to claim that I have exceptional interior design abilities) I like to think I have a better idea on how to style my house with simple, understated pieces that give it a touch of luxury with out breaking the bank account.
Now I'm going to come out with a big statement here so just bare with me...The biggest, most life-changing item that I've added to my house is BAMBOO.
Admittedly, my interest started about four or five years ago when I read Kim Barnouin's "Skinny Bitch" (literally, if you are in any way concerned about the use of chemicals in our homes and their effect on your body and the environment, it's a must read). Kim talked about bamboo being a magical material that was not only more sustainable and environmentally friendly to grow but has a range of other properties (hypo-allergenic and anti-bacterial) that make it the perfect choice for any home.
Cue Pure Zone.
Typical "Let's live a healthy lifestyle Carly" was scrolling the internet on the hunt for some bamboo sheets. Up until then I had sadly been using the same scratchy Kmart ones and was in desperate need of something that was going to turn my bed into a soft, silky heaven and HOPEFULLY allow me to finally get a good night's sleep. Pure Zone delivered! Their prices were not only significantly better than other brands on the market but from the first touch, I was obsessed.
A set of slate grey bamboo sheets evolved into another set of green, a white doona cover and a nude throw. I was a dangerous woman with a credit card on a mission to convert anyone in my path. When my friend Ash was having a baby shower, adding a bamboo baby towel set from Pure Zone was essential.
And so my bed became this place of comfort and serenity. Finally, a good night's sleep was on the agenda. But wait, there's more...
Having seen my slight bamboo obsession, Pure Zone asked if I wanted to try out their bamboo towels. I can't believe they even bothered asking me, for certain the answer was going to be HECK YES! Another glorious package arrived. I stuck with my same colour scheme of green and grey (creature of habit, what can I say?) and all I needed was one touch for me to call over my partner Dave, like the crazy woman I am and insist on him touching the towels. Another one converted...
So unfortunately for me, I am now going to have to get rid of every other towel I own because there is no way they can compete with the bamboo. I also strongly feel that Pure Zone should start making bamboo robes, pajamas and socks so that every part of me can be covered in the softness at all times. How good does it feel to support an Australian, family-owed business and do good things for the environment at the same time?
